Where the QEW splits and the Skyway begins
Burlington sits on the hinge of the whole region. West of the city the QEW divides: the 403 carries on into Hamilton, and the Skyway lifts over the harbour towards Niagara and the American border. Which side of that split you need decides everything about your trip, and it is the reason an incident on the Skyway can be irrelevant to one Burlington passenger and ruinous to another on the same morning.
Downtown is compact and walkable, which makes it awkward to drive. Brant Street runs from the pier up to the QEW past the performing arts centre and the restaurants, with Spencer Smith Park and the waterfront filling every summer weekend and the whole of Sound of Music. We collect from Lakeshore Road or a side street rather than Brant itself, and on festival weekends from an agreed point well back from the closures.
North and east the city opens up. Millcroft, Alton and Tyandaga are residential with generous driveways, Appleby Line and the North Service Road hold the business parks, and the convention centre sits right on the QEW for conferences that draw from across the region. Aldershot, on the Hamilton side, has the Royal Botanical Gardens and a GO station that is often the real destination rather than an airport at all.

What happens if the Skyway is closed?
We go around it through Hamilton and add the time to the schedule rather than to the fare. High winds and incidents close that bridge with little notice, so dispatch checks it before any car leaves for Niagara or the border.
Is Hamilton really closer than Pearson from here?
For most Burlington addresses, yes, by a wide margin. John C. Munro is twenty to thirty minutes up Highway 6, and both airports are on the fixed-fare table above, so the cheaper drive is visible before you book rather than after.
Do you drive across to Buffalo?
Regularly, as a fixed intercity charter rather than a metered trip. Every passenger needs their own travel documents, the chauffeur crosses with you, and the time spent at the booth is ours to absorb rather than yours to pay for.
