No private vehicle crosses to the island, so every pickup and drop-off happens on the mainland at Eireann Quay, at the foot of Bathurst Street.

    The ferry dock, the tunnel entrance and the short driveway where cars are permitted to stop.

    At the vehicle
    Your chauffeur waits in the driveway or on Eireann Quay a few metres back, and texts you the plate and the spot before you land.
    Met inside
    Or the chauffeur stands in the pavilion at the top of the tunnel escalator with a discreet digital name card, so you are met as you come up rather than out on the quay.
    Departures
    Departures are dropped at the pavilion doors, with enough time in hand for the crossing and for security on the island.

  • The island terminal

    Porter Airlines and the short-haul schedules that share the terminal. Check-in, security and every gate are on the island side.

    At the vehicle
    We never promise a gate-side pickup here, because the road access to the island is not open to private cars. The vehicle stands on the mainland and your chauffeur comes to you.
    Met inside
    If you would rather not manage the cases alone, your chauffeur can walk through the tunnel and carry them back. Ask dispatch when you book, or when you land.
    Departures
    From the pavilion it is a walk through the tunnel or a ninety-second ferry ride, then the island terminal doors.

The tunnel, the ferry and the minutes they cost

The pedestrian tunnel under the Western Channel has lifts and moving walkways at both ends and runs whenever the airport does. The ferry crosses in about ninety seconds and carries the passengers the tunnel does not. Either way the crossing is a short walk plus a few minutes, and we build it into your pickup rather than leave you to discover it.

Arrivals
Allow a few minutes from the gate to the mainland pavilion. Your chauffeur is already standing there when you surface, because we stage on the landing time rather than on the walk.
Departures
We time the pickup backwards from your check-in cut-off with the crossing counted in, which is the step most travellers leave out.
Bad weather
Fog and wind hold flights here more often than they hold them at Pearson. Dispatch watches the board and moves your car rather than charging you for the delay.

Downtown runs are short enough that the minimum fare for the vehicle often decides the figure rather than the distance. It is still fixed before you book.

Quoted for a weekday pickup outside the 22:00 to 06:00 ET window and off the statutory holiday calendar; the overnight and holiday supplements are set per vehicle and appear on your quote before you confirm. HST at 13% is added as its own line, gratuity is at your discretion, and addresses outside these zones are quoted by distance and time before you book. The stretch limousine is not offered on airport work; it cannot use the terminal limousine stalls the way a sedan or an SUV can.

    Tunnel or ferry, whichever is moving. Sixty minutes of wait time run from touchdown, and most passengers here are out in ten.

    You travel

    Bay Street is about ten minutes from the pavilion in ordinary traffic, Union Station a little less, and the fare was agreed before you flew.

Business aviation at Billy Bishop is handled by the fixed-base operator on the island, and the ground rules are the same as for the scheduled flights: private vehicles stay on the mainland. Your chauffeur meets you at the pavilion once the handler has brought you across.

What to expect between the island and the city

Billy Bishop is the only airport in the region where the drive is the short part. From the pavilion, Bay Street is a few minutes up Bathurst and along Queens Quay or Lake Shore, the Financial District a couple of lights further, and Union Station closer still. What costs time is the channel, the single approach road at Eireann Quay, and the Bathurst Street bridge, which lifts for marine traffic and stops everything on both sides while it does.

That geography changes how we stage. A car sitting in the terminal driveway blocks the taxis and the shuttle, so your chauffeur waits a few metres back and pulls in when you text. On a summer weekend, when the island ferries at the foot of Bay are loading for the parks, we come at the quay from the west rather than through the Harbourfront traffic. None of it appears on your invoice: the fare is fixed before you travel, whatever the bridge does.

Can the car collect me from the island terminal itself?

No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing. The island is reached by the pedestrian tunnel or the ferry, and private vehicles do not cross. The walk is short, and your chauffeur can come through and carry the cases if you ask.

How long does it take to reach Bay Street?

About ten minutes in ordinary traffic, a little more when the Bathurst Street bridge lifts or the Gardiner is shedding traffic onto Lake Shore. Dispatch times departures backwards from your check-in cut-off rather than from the drive.

What happens if my flight is held in fog?

Your pickup moves with it, at no charge. We track the flight from wheels-up at the origin airport, and weather holds here are frequent enough that dispatch watches this board more closely than most.

When should the car collect me for a departure?

Earlier than the drive suggests. We count the crossing, security on the island and the airline’s cut-off, then work backwards from that and tell you the time we arrive at.

Do I pay online?

No. Nothing is charged on this site. The fare is fixed when you book and settled after the trip, or on a corporate account.
